AUGUST 2019 EXHIBITION - HANLEY SWAN VILLAGE HALL
Saturday 3rd - Sunday 4th August 2019

Exhibtion 2019

The entries and visitor numbers were well up on last year the number of paintings entered totalled 130 from 33 members. The standard as ever was very high and we received many comments to that effect from the 198 visitors over the two days of the exhibition. Unfortunately the exhibition ran at a large loss for the society as refreshments and sales of paintings etc. were down, except for cards, and exhibition costs were very high.

Rowena Beaver

Once again visitors were asked to vote for their favourite picture and the winner was Rowena Beaver for her acrylic painting ‘Fly away Home’ (Pidgeon Loft)

The Blues

Happy Days

2nd and 3rd place were given to Ann Woolfson for her paintings 'The Blues' and 'Happy Days'

Thanks to all the volunteers who worked tirelessly setting up the easels and hanging the art on Friday to stewarding and refreshments over the 2 days. Thanks also to all those members who exhibited their wonderful paintings. Hopefully they and others will be able to do the same again next year.

REPORT FOR HANLEY SWAN VILLAGE HALL EXHIBITION
Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th August 2018

The sunshine stayed with us for the two days of the exhibition and kept visitor numbers (162) to about the same as last year.
Only 29 members entered paintings, which is down on last year and the number of paintings was once again down slightly on last year at 105.  However, as many visitors commented, the standard of the work was higher than ever.
Although the sales of framed pictures being sold (5) together with (6) unframed originals, prints and cards remained the same as last year the value of the sales increased on last year. The refreshments were once again a great success. Donations to Midland Air Ambulance were unfortunately far less than in previous years but we are still able to send a cheque for £100 to them.

Once again visitors were asked to vote for their favourite picture

Exhibition 2018 winner

The winner with the most votes was Ann Woolfson with her oil on canvas entitled ‘They said it was my tea break’

Joint third place Peter Wilkinson and Bill Sayer with their acrylic works entitled ‘The old Barn’ and ‘Dancing Cranes’ respectively

The exhibition was considered a great success thanks to all the volunteers who, despite the heat, worked tirelessly setting up the easels and hanging the art on Friday to stewarding and refreshments over the 2 days. Thanks also to all those members who exhibited their wonderful paintings. Hopefully they and others will be able to do the same again next year.

REPORT FOR HANLEY SWAN VILLAGE HALL EXHIBITION
Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th August 2017

Exhibition 2017

Visitors to the exhibition were down on last year from 190 to 157 this was hopefully due to the inclement weather.
We decided not to use the screens this year but the easels seemed to work well and we received many positive comments from visitors on the continuing high standard and presentation of the work. Both the number of members who exhibited their work (33) and the number of framed paintings (120) entered were down on last year.
Sales of framed pictures being sold (5) together with unframed originals, prints and cards were also down on last year. Good news the refreshments were once again a great success. Donations to Midland Air Ambulance were £117 which I am sure the committee will agree to round up to £120.

Peter Wilkinson 2017

As usual visitors were asked to vote for their favourite picture. The winner with the most votes was Peter Wilkinson - ‘Bara Beach’ in second place was Maeve Davies - ‘Dalai Lama’ and in third place Pat Hibbs ‘Sous Les Arbres’

Despite the low turnout of both visitors and paintings entered the exhibition was very well received and everyone agreed that the standard of work had once again surpassed previous years. On the whole the exhibition should be considered a success thanks in no small part to the energy of all the volunteers, from setting up the easels and hanging the art on Friday to stewarding and refreshments over the 2 days, also all those members who exhibited their wonderful paintings.

REPORT FOR HANLEY SWAN VILLAGE HALL EXHIBITION
Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th August 2016

The number of people who came to view the exhibition was up on the previous year to approximately 190; no doubt this was helped by the glorious weather we enjoyed for the two days we were open for visitors.
The new layout using the screens along with Derek’s easels worked very well prompting many positive comments from visitors on the continuing high standard and presentation of the work. 37 members exhibited their work that included 132 framed paintings with two browsers of unframed mounted originals and prints along with a good selection of cards.
Sales compared favourably with last year with a total of 9 framed pictures being sold together with unframed originals, prints and cards. The refreshments were once again a great success. As a result we are able to make a donation this year of around £345 to The Midlands Air Ambulance.
Visitors were asked to vote for their favourite picture. Ann Woolfson’s pastel ‘sandbanks at low tide’ was the winner with Bill Sayer’s mixed medium ‘Dawn take-off – China’, a very close second.
Many thanks to all the volunteers, you know who you are, and all those members who exhibited their paintings for once again putting on what must be one of our best exhibitions to date.

REPORT ON THE SUMMER EXHIBITION
Hanley Swan Memorial Hall
-AUGUST 2nd & 3rd 2014 Penny Vere's 'Swan'

Apart from an initial downpour, the weather was kind to us on the two days open for visitors. Fewer than usual, approximately 170 people arrived to peruse our pictures and decide which was their favourite. The easy winner was Penny Vere's beautiful Swan, with the sunlight glowing through its lifted wings.

Many visitors commented on the continuing high standard and presentation of MTA work. There were 112 framed Paintings, two browsers of unframed, mounted Originals, and one browser containing Prints. This was a new venture on trial at this exhibition, revealing enough members sufficiently interested to show prints that we shall probably continue to provide space for them in the future.

Although sales of paintings were well down this year, the greetings cards did very well, and the popularity of home-made cakes and coffee soared to prompt unprecedented donations for the Midland Air Ambulance Charity.
All together, we shall be able to send £280 towards the work of the MAAC.

To improve on this, we all need to enter our very best paintings, tell everyone  when the exhibition is on, and offer to help in the hall, at the desk or in the kitchen. Thanks are due to all those who did those very things this year….the few who seem to Do Everything couldn't possibly manage without you all.
The Exhibition provides one of the best chances we get to meet other members in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, with coffee and a chat, so let's  look forward to returning to Hanley Swan during early August 2015 (See Newsletter and details later).

WINTER EXHIBITION 2013 Report ( Priory Lodge)

36 people, about a third of the membership, exhibited framed paintings this year, some bringing several unframed pictures as well, and others arranged their greetings cards, calendars and miniatures on the side-tables. So we had a nicely represented exhibition. - the overall number of exhibits was just about right this time, so the spacing didn't look too crowded.

274 visitors came (229 last yr.), and many remarked on the very high standard and variety of the work on view. 11 framed paintings and 7 unframed were sold, plus a number of cards. After expenses, and together with all cash from Donations and the Refreshments, we have been able to send £400 to help the Community Hospital this year.

I should like to thank all those who helped in any way. Chairman Janet Jones and the Committee members all played a big part in the unseen background work, and I now thank them en masse for what they've done for this particular exhibition.  They and many other members brought wondrous cakes, some heaved tables and stands about, some arranged pictures others sat at the desk greeting the visitors or keeping an eye on the cash boxes. Some kept everyone supplied with teas and coffees one or two went up the town for more milk and came back with a new dress!

It's very pleasant to chat with the other helpers and all have coffee together anyway, those who come to help on the day seem to enjoy it. Members may feel that only the Exhibitors should do the stewarding, and most do, but if you are free and could come and help, you would be more than welcome.

The next Exhibition will be held on the first week-end in August 2014 (1st-3rd), at Hanley Swan Village Hall, and details will follow in due course.

REPORT ON THE 2013 SUMMER EXHIBITION
Hanley Swan Memorial Hall - August 3rd & 4th 2013

The Exhibition opened on a pleasant, sunny day, and visitors started to arrive as soon as the doors opened.  They were happy to look carefully at all the pictures, in order to vote for their favourite, though many found it difficult to choose just one among the excellent and varied styles of painting on show.   There were 132 framed paintings, a browser full of mounted pictures and 7 stands of printed cards.

The weather on the second day was not so kind, and by lunch-time the rain was torrential and prolonged. Few people ventured out then, but by mid-afternoon the hall was full again, visitor numbers making 223 overall.

Many cards were sold, as well as mounted work, together with  12  framed pictures.  Refreshments of home-made cakes with coffee or tea brought in donations of £168, to add to the £100 dropped into the Carboy. After expenses, we are able to send £300 to the Midland Air Ambulance Charity.

Rosemary Ostick "Blue Poppy"

Rosemary Ostick's "Blue Poppy" in mixed media was voted Best Picture, and she was presented with a bottle of wine amid enthusiastic applause.

The Event was enjoyed by the people who came to see it, as well as the many members who had contributed to its success. Too many to name individually, they were thanked by Janet Jones and Janet Pugh with sincere appreciation.

We can now look forward to our Exhibition at Priory Lodge hall, on 15th, 16th & 17th. November 2013, when we hope to raise funds for our local Malvern Community Hospital.

REPORT ON THE 2012 WINTER EXHIBITION
Priory Lodge Hall -  Nov. 23-25th. 2012

Cllr. Paul Tuthill, Chairman of the MHD Council opened the Exhibition, and seemed pleased, maybe surprised, by the high standard of the show, which did look good in the light, bright newly renovated hall. After the Exhibition, a letter of thanks was sent in appreciation.

40% of the Membership exhibited over 150 pictures in total. In spite of  heavy rain, 229 visitors came to view them. 18 paintings plus a number of cards were sold, which together with Donations and contributions from the Refreshments enabled us to send £400 to the League of  Friends of Malvern Hospital.

All negotiations were done by Jan Jones, who took on the Publicity role, contacting newspapers and radio as well as overseeing the distribution of posters and flyers. These were designed and printed by Ann Woolfson, who had earlier created our MTA web-site. Our thanks go to both ladies, and also to Eddie Birch and his team of gentlemen who quickly prepared the screens, tables and various equipment on Hanging Day; Pam Foort's team of hangers who soon arranged the pictures as attractively as space would allow; Rosemary Ostick who took charge of the refreshments, lovely cakes having been brought along from  members' own kitchens; the outside signs and banners were daily arranged by Derek Fontaine. Many other members helped in all sorts of ways.

Almost every exhibitor offered to do Stewarding Duty at least once over the three days.  The 2012 Winter Exhibition was a success, and everyone involved seemed to enjoy it. We hope to hold a similarly worthwhile event about the same time in 2013.
